Cocktails and Conversation Fundraiser a Success!
Monday, 06 October 2008
Politicos and supporters of The Junior Statesmen Foundation gathered at the San Francisco home of Helen Hilton Raiser on October 16th, 2007, for Cocktails and Conversation about the 2008 Presidential Race.  Raiser is a former Trustee of The Junior Statesmen Foundation, and is highly active in both local and national politics.

Mike McCurry, Chairman of the Board of The Junior Statesmen Foundation and an alumnus of the Junior State program, led an all-star discussion on the 2008 Presidential election with two great guest speakers: former Congressman Tom Campbell (R), now Dean of the Haas Business School; and former Mayor of Los Angeles Jim Hahn (D).

Dean Campbell and Mayor Hahn kept everyone entertained with their great insight and clever comments on the Presidential race. Mayor Hahn offered his prediction that Hilary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee; while Dean Campbell pointed out that at the same time in 1991 Bill Clinton was still a dark horse.  Dean Campbell also forecasted that this may be the year for a third party candidate, such as Independent Michael Bloomberg.  Mayor Hahn and Dean Campbell agreed that the Democratic candidates’ fundraising successes are quite unprecedented and that the Iraq War would be a major issue in the election.    Several members of the Junior Statesmen Foundation Board of Trustees attended the event, as well as many local Junior State alumni.  Northern California JSA Governor Anne-Marie Mitchell was also present with a group of current JSA students from the Bay Area.  Former Junior Statesmen Foundation Executive Director Richard Prosser and his wife Karen Prosser attended on the eve of their move to Washington, D.C., and were recognized for their lifetime of service to The Junior Statesmen Foundation and the JSA program.
