Highlights From the 2009 Sympoisum on Energy and the Environment

The 2009 Symposium on Energy and Environmental Politics brought together political leaders, business leaders and students in an interactive forum where students will learn first hand about today’s energy and environmental policy challenges and how today’s decisions will impact the future. The decisions our politicians and business community make right now will affect the nation and the world for decades. Among today's youth, there is great support and enthusiasm for creating new policies will help us meet our growing energy needs while protecting the environment.

Students not only explored these topics, but also debated the merits of the differing approaches and endeavored to create a "Community Action Plan" outlining future steps they can take in their local communities.

Topics explored inlcude:

American Energy Independence - is it really possible?
Climate Change and its Effects
Viability of Alternative Energy Sources
What We Can Do Right Now - Conservation and Energy Efficiency
Meeting Our Growing Demand For Energy
