Junior Statesmen Summer School at Georgetown University
Washington, D.C.
Session I: June 20 - July 11
Session II: July 18 - August 8

Georgetown Summer School students experience a unique combination of rigorous academics and hands-on learning in our nation’s capitol.  During three intense weeks, the study of government is enriched by a high-level Speakers Program and nightly student debates.

In class, university professors guide you through a semester of advanced coursework in three weeks. Lectures, class discussions and political simulations explore the basic tenets of political science. Students may enroll in AP U.S. Government, International Relations , Constitutional Law   or Speech & Political Communication . Students attending Session II will also have the option of enrolling in Media & Politics . Assignments include extensive reading, two essay examinations and completion of a major research paper.

In Washington, D.C., you meet and question national leaders, including White House officials, Congressional leaders, Cabinet members, lobbyists and journalists. Students watch the House and Senate in sessions, attend Congressional hearings and use the vast resources of Washington while doing research for their term paper and debates.

On Capitol Hill, a special reception honoring you and your classmates is an opportunity to meet members of Congress, politically active Junior Statesmen alumni and other government officials.

During Congressional Workshop, students put their knowledge into action. You and your classmates will help create and run a legislative body patterned after the U.S. Congress with nightly student debates on current policy issues.

Is Georgetown your top choice for college? Each summer, the Georgetown Admissions office hosts a special orientation session for our participants. Officials can answer your questions about the application process, financial aid and residential life.
