James Lee

Director of Alumni Relations and Development

 

James V. Lee is currently the Director of Alumni Relations and Development for The Junior Statesmen Foundation (JSF).

James' previous roles at JSF include serving as the Program Director for JSA in Southern California, the Director of the Stanford Summer School, and the Director of the Los Angeles and Orange County Symposia programs.

James grew up in the Northern California Bay Area and graduated from San Mateo High School in 1982, where he was an active member of the JSA program, holding the offices of Mayor of the Golden Gate Region (1981-1982), State Director of Debate (1980-1981), and Statesman of the Year (1982).

While in JSA, James also attended the California Summer School program at U.C. Davis (1979), the inaugural Washington, D.C., Summer School (1981), and the California Symposium (1980).

After graduating from Princeton University with a degree in Politics (1986), where he wrote his thesis on the Implications of Deregulation for Bank Strategy, James was a Resident Advisor for the Los Angeles Symposium program before serving as a Fellow with the investment bank Nikko Securities in Tokyo, Japan.   He then worked for the strategy and consulting firm McKinsey & Company in San Francisco prior to starting his own retail antique business specializing in French 19th Century furniture, which grew from a small $200,000 operation into the largest importer of French antiques on the West Coast, with $2 million in sales, 10 employees, and 17,000 square feet of showroom facilities.

Prior to joining the Junior Statesmen Foundation staff full time in 2006, James served on the Foundation Board of Trustees and was a JSF staff member at the 2004 Democratic and Republican Presidential Nominating Convention Symposia programs.

He also is Vice President of the board of the Child Abuse Prevention Society and is the past President of the Princeton Club of Northern California.

James lives in Oakand, California, with his wife, Annie, and their beagle, Millie, and cat, Henry.
