Northeast Chapter Raises Funds for Haiti

CCHS principal gets in a sticky situation

The school’s Junior State chapter helped organize the event and bought eight rolls of duct tape in the colors of Haiti’s flag, according to chapter President Chris Guiney, a senior.

"We wanted to raise money for Haiti and we thought what would be the most effective way to energize the whole school and raise money at a very low cost," Guiney said. "I came up with this ridiculous idea and Mr. Badalament was sporting enough to do it."

Just after 11:15, a crowd of students gathered in the main hall as Badalament pulled a poncho over his head and stepped up onto a few used books, his back to the glass wall between the hall and the library and arms outstretched.

Within seconds, a swarm of students was sticking Badalament to the wall and a "Help Me" sign on his chest. Ever the good sport, the principal posed for pictures and joked about the prospect of going viral before lunch period ended.

As of Thursday afternoon, Guiney was unsure where they’d send the proceeds from the event, but the school’s Haiti relief coordinator was looking for a Haitian school to which they could donate the money.
