JSA students in front of Arizona State Capitol This summer 107 eager student leaders gathered at Arizona State University in Tempe to begin a 4-day adventure in state government and politics.  Hailing from every corner of Arizona, with a few out of staters thrown in for flavor, the students immersed themselves in the power, people, and politics of the Grand Canyon State.

 

 

 

 
Chuck Hagel Receives Statesman of the Year Award

Chuck HagelThe Junior Statesmen Foundation is pleased to announce former Senator Chuck Hagel as the recipient of the 2009 Statesman of the Year Award. Senator Hagel served during two presidential administrations before becoming a Senator from Nebraska in a surprising victory. He is particularly influential in the realm of foreign policy and has recently written a new book aimed at investigating the current state of our nation.

 
Green Days: Energy and Environment Symposium Highlights
This past week, over 80 students from throughout the country came together for the first ever Junior Statesmen Symposium on Energy and the Environment.  Students heard from a wide variety of experts, legislative leaders and business interests.
 
JSA Diplomat Program - Beijing - Summer 2010

 

JSA Diplomat Program AnnouncementOn July 30, JSA announced that it is partnering with the nation’s premier study abroad program, CET Academic Programs, to launch its first international summer school for high school students in China.  The JSA Diplomat Program will be held next summer in Beijing.  Adam Jones, China Programs Manager at CET Academic Travel, introduced the program to students at the Junior Statesmen Summer School at Georgetown.

Students Survive Anarchy During Trial Run of Civic Mirror

The odds seemed stacked against us.  It was a Friday evening, after an intense week of summer school at Stanford.  Many students had research papers due the next morning. Some were scheduled to audition for the talent show.  All had one more week of classes before completing what was probably the most intense academic experience in their lives.  What were the chances that we could gather 20 students from California and Arizona into one room to participate in an “experiment” in citizenship and experiential learning?
