Symposium on California Politics and Government

Well the first day of the California Symposium went off without a hitch
and the students had a great time. All of the speakers commented on
the quality of the questions and were impressed by the knowledge of
the students. Some of today's highlights includes hearing about the
"gaywashing" of PG & E from Assemblyman Mark Leno, the
importance of budget reform from Lt. Governor John Garamendi and the
myriad of problems facing our schools from Superintendent of Public
Instruction Jack O'Connell and Secretary of Education David Long. The
state budget was on everybody's mind, but solutions did not seem
forthcoming at this time. Maybe Controller Chiang will be able to shed
some light on the situation tomorrow!
