Lake Forest Chapter of the Week
Monday, 31 March 2008

The JSA chapter at Lake Forest High School has more than doubled its participation in JSA activities this year. The chapter attended numerous mini-conventions and one-day events such as the Presidential Nominating Convention, and the large conventions like Winter Congress and Fall State. The LFHS chapter has a tradition of leadership in Midwest JSA.Many previous governors and senators have been from the chapter, and currently Ben Arnstein, the Chief of Staff, Bobby Graham, the Publicity Director, Ellie Graham, the Illinois Senator, Nikhil Mulani, the Virtual Outreach Director and Ravi Mulani, the Governor, are from LFHS. Chapter meetings focus on interesting and news-worthy topics. At a recent meeting, we watched clips of both 'An Inconvenient Truth' and 'The Great Global Warming Swindle', followed by debate where we disproved points in each of the videos.

Members of our chapter bring a large amount of enthusiasm to every event outside of school as well. At the PNC this year, three of the presidential candidates were represented by LFHS students. At Winter Congress and Fall State, chapter members always accounted for a large amount of the gavels won and enjoy giving main speeches. One custom of the LFHS chapter at conventions is its large participation in thought talks. Our chapter moderates numerous thought talks at every convention, and many members take part in coming up with topics for them too. The defining characteristic of the LFHS chapter is the conviction and passion each member brings to JSA debates and thought talks. Every member has something to say, whether it be about net neutrality or the gold standard, and they make sure they are heard in Midwest JSA.
