Among all of the chapters in the Angeles Region of Southern California JSA, the one at Lynwood High School is one of the largest and most distinguished. It is filled with motivated and intrigued students that seldom miss any of the chapter meetings. Each Wednesday, in Room 5105, a crowd waits for the meeting to commence. Once in session, the room is so full that many of the students have no option but to sit on the floor. The meetings play host to astounding debates in which the students eagerly participate and express their opinion on the issue at hand. One of the most important factors in the success of the Lynwood JSA chapter is the sense of unity and stability that can be found among the chapter members. Throughout the year, various chapter events have taken place – from small reunions to a unique Winter Break party, where we played a game called Dirty Santa. One of the most memorable events of the year was our Mini Conference. Our current governor put it best, “I came here expecting about 50 people. Instead, I found 150 people wide awake on a Saturday morning, ready to make their opinions heard. Definitely worth the hour-long drive. Great job!” In addition to our popular chapter activities and overwhelmingly successful Mini-Con, we have been extremely active on the state level as well. Fall State saw us bring the second largest delegation at the convention, and went one better at Congress, where we managed to assemble the largest delegation – 42 students. Currently, our focus is on Spring State, especially with two of our chapter members running for elected office - Janae Henderson for AR Senator and Elias Collantes for AR Mayor. The Lynwood Chapter strongly supports these two members and wishes them the best of luck. Our chapter has, does, and will continue to work hard to make JSA an integral part of not only our school but also our community. |
