Milpitas High School Junior State Takes Debate to Cyberspace
By Jamie Yao, Chapter President “Milpitas JSA now has a blog,” the email subject line read. Apparently, our chapter treasurer had been so inspired by a blog produced by Westlake High of the Texas region that he had decided to make one for our own chapter… in the spur of the moment without having told anyone else. So I tentatively clicked on the link and hoped for the best- when I saw it, I was excited about all we could do with a blog, and I am happy to say that we have fulfilled some of those ideas. Because our meetings are often activity-packed instead of informational, it is important for us to be able to convey valuable information, whether they be dates for upcoming events, the next meeting’s agenda, or debate topics for Spring State. We accomplish this mainly through our blog! Besides this, our blog features various national and world issues. We have had posts about presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as well as our trade deficit with China. We like to say that the blog acts as a perpetual thought talk. Right now, we are trying to get more members to contribute by publishing posts. With so much going on in our chapter, NorCal JSA, and politics, the blog has been instrumental in getting the word out and getting people excited about the issues and engaged in JSA!
