POSITION: JSA Fellows Program (Internship)

Washington D.C. or San Mateo, CA office

 Job Description
The Junior Statesmen Foundation, a nonpartisan, non-profit, political education organization for high school student leaders, based in San Mateo, CA and Washington, DC.  The Foundation prepares students for responsible leadership in a democratic society.  Founded in California in 1934, the organization has spread across the country in recent years. In over 500 high schools throughout the nation, Junior State of America chapters serve as the center of political awareness and activity on campus. During the school year, The Junior Statesmen Foundation and the Junior State of America hold fifty major regional and state-wide conventions on politics, current events, debate and leadership. During the summer, The Junior Statesmen Foundation conducts the Junior Statesmen Summer School on university campuses and sponsors Symposia on politics, government and current issues.

 JSA Fellows work out of our offices in San Mateo, California or Washington, DC to support the chapters, student leaders, teacher/advisors and programs of the Junior State of America.  These part-time employees support the Student Services Managers and Program Directors of the Junior Statesmen Foundation staff.

 JSA Fellows will be assigned a semester long project to support the activities of the Junior State chapters or student leadership.

Responsibilities: JSA Program Support
Provide quality customer service to chapter presidents and Teacher/Advisors
Support students and teachers seeking to start new chapters
Assist with processing school registrations for student conventions
Assist Program Directors with mailings and other tasks

Other Responsibilities
General office support as needed, including phones, filing, copying, mail, faxing, etc.
Word processing reports and general correspondence
Occasional weekend work and travel
 
Qualifications:           
A strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel
Ability to use web based computer programs, including databases
Fast and accurate data entry skills
A desire to work with high achieving high school students
Excellent customer service skills
A passion for the mission of JSA

Salary:  Part-time position, $10 an hour; 10 – 15 hours per week.
