Hello MAS JSAers and welcome to the first ever Mid-Atlantic State blog! First, I'd just like to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Gopal Narsimhamurthy and I am a senior at South Brunswick High School in New Jersey and a die-hard Yankees fan (don't get me started on Rudy Giuliani!). In my fourth year in JSA and my third as a cabinet member, I'm looking forward to another fun-filled year in the MAS!

On September 29, the MAS held its annual Leadership Day Conference at my very own South Brunswick High School. The conference went extremely well as seasoned JSAers and many who were new to the organization came together to learn from one another. The state and regional cabinets met and prepared for their respective Fall conventions while others gathered for intense debates on the legalization of marijuana and the importance of standardized tests in the college admission process. On top of the meetings and debates, the MAS elected officials organized a number of student bonding activities such as a game of Red Rover to add some light-hearted fun into the day. From what I witnessed, it seemed as though all who attended had a great time.
On October 20, the New Jersey Region also held its annual Fall Regional conference at Princeton University. This year, more than 260 students attended the successful event and debated over many controversial topics such as the existence of de facto segregation, the institution of the marital tax, the significance of global warming, and the harshness of gun control laws. Overall, Fall Regional was extremely successful and enjoyable.
Finally, the MAS Fall State convention is coming up on November 10-11 in Cherry Hill New Jersey and will be incredible as usual. On top of many thrilling debates, there will be a a Date a Cabinet Member Auction which I have the privilege of participating in (although I face stiff competition from Governor Matis himself) and a gift auction to raise money for the Embrace Kids Foundation. More importantly and even more exciting is that the MAS cabinet will set up a few laptops with web-cams to send questions to the CNN Youtube Presidential debate.
