The Midwest is already off to a running start this year in JSA. We're just three months into the school year and a lot has already happened. A couple of weeks ago, Lake Forest High School hosted a JSA mini-convention, which schools and students from all over the North Shore (including me) attended.
We had some pretty intensive debates, that spanned on subjects from nuclear policy and space colonization to Harry Potter as a modern epic hero. The thought talks were also interesting. I took part in one that focused on the possibility of anarcho-capitalism in modern day society, and we ended up talking about how the current currency system backed by the government works and comparing it to a gold standard system. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces from last year's conventions and also some new faces. Naperville North High School also had a recent mini-convention, and Michigan has already had a barbecue for new chapters. Our Fall State convention in Madison, Wisconsin is coming up soon, from November 17th to 19th, and registrations are pouring in from chapters all over the Midwest. Chapters are starting up at a rapid pace all over the Midwest and for the first time Nebraska will be represented at this year's Fall State. If you need the registration materials, or want more information, check out http://www.midwestjsa.org.
If you would like to stay up to date on all of the events happening around Midwest JSA, sign up for "The Official Midwest Junior State Facebook Group 2007-2008" on Facebook to receive notifications. Interested in starting up a chapter at your high school? Head over to http://www.midwestjsa.org and fill out the form there to get started.
