Edwin Meese III
The 75th attorney general of the United States from 1985-1988, Edwin Meese III is a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. After serving as deputy district attorney in Alameda County, Calif., Meese joined Gov. Ronald Reagan's administration as legal affairs secretary. In 1969, Meese was named executive assistant and chief of staff for Gov. Reagan.

During the 1980 presidential campaign, Meese was chief of staff and senior issues advisor for the Reagan-Bush campaign and following the election, headed President Reagan's transition team. From 1981-1985, Meese was counselor to the president and served in his cabinet.

After stepping down from the Justice Department, Meese became a distinguished fellow and holder of the Ronald Reagan Chair in Public Policy at the Heritage Foundation; a member of the Board of Regents of the National College of District Attorney; distinguished senior fellow, Institute for United States Studies, University of London; and a member of the boards of directors of both the Capital Research Center and the Landmark Legal Foundation.
