Welcome to the NES blogs
Wednesday, 24 October 2007
Good morning/afternoon/evening Junior Statesmen of the Northeast,
I'd like to welcome you to the Northeast's second foray into blogging. As a little background, my name is David Parkinson, and I am a senior at Stuyvesant High School in Lower Manhattan. I've been in JSA for all four of my high school years, and have been on some form of state cabinet for the last three. I'm not sure exactly what drew me into JSA, but my first regional convinced me to stay, and I've been coming back ever since.
Now that thats over, its time for some actual news and blogging.
This past Sunday, October 21st, the Empire Constitution Region had its first Regional event, in which nearly 150 students from all over Connecticut and New York came and debated on issues ranging from racial profiling to bilateral diplomacy in North Korea. From the debates that I saw and moderated, everyone enjoyed themselves and got in some practice before the Fall State overnight convention, which will happen November 17th and 18th just north of Boston.
Speaking of Boston, the New England Region is having their regional on Saturday, October 27th. Although the NER consists of MA, NH, VT, ME & MA, you do not have to be from those states to attend. They are looking to hit 100 in attendance, and with a debate list like theirs, there should be no problem doing so.
If you'd like to sign up to debate, click onto http://www.jsa.debateware.com. You have to click I agree, I am registering for an NER event in order to access sign-in. After you do, you may have to create an account if you are new, but if you have one from last year, you can log in using that. There is a Fall State debate list posted there and you are welcome to sign up, but please note that some debates are subject to change, as revisions are still being done to make it the best debate list possible.
I hope to (if college application time allows) have another post up by Monday the 29th with more news and Fall State info. If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to e-mail me at & This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it I'm still waiting for Elliott, the NES Assistant Program Director to send me the ECR Regional photos, but I'll be sure to put them right when I get them. Also, if you have any Regional photos, feel free to send them to me, I'll put them right up and you'll get a photo cred shout-out. Although, I wont be at the NER Regional (ACT conflict), I encourage you all to attend, as it will be a great event, and if you were there in the Spring, you know there's something very important riding on this event. More on that later.
To a great year,
David J. Parkinson Northeast Blog Manager
