Ohio River Valley; Hitting the Ground Running
Sunday, 04 November 2007

This year in the Ohio River Valley State, we are reaching new heights and expanding too many more schools!  The excitement everyone has is expressively displayed in their love of debate and love of leadership.  This is truly a year of change, growth, and experiences to last a lifetime, so get involved today to so you don’t miss another second.

Even before the school year started, the Ohio River Valley (ORV) State was off to a running start.  At our annual Ohio Symposium, which daily travels to the Ohio State House, our attendance was up and our speakers remained phenomenal!  The delegates at Symposium even got a chance to take a picture an briefly speak with Governor Strickland. As soon as the school year began, we held two successful leadership conferences, both in Southern and Northern Ohio.  At these kick off conventions, brand new chapters were introduced to the wonders of JSA!  They learned the how to put on their own conventions, how to prepare for debates, who to contact for help, and numerous other information.  On top of this we had a very successful Regional, which was planned by Ohio Valley Mayor (Ohio region south of Columbus), Sarah Paxton.

The ORV State is comprised of Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Southern Indiana.  The ORV hosts three major conventions a year, including one this November in Cincinnati. At our conventions, the delegates’ debate with incredible skill, discuss with a deep passion about the issues, and lead with true dedication to the Junior State of America.  Don’t worry if you are sad about missing it because we have another incredible convention coming up in January called the Presidential Nominating Convention (PNC).  At this unique and exciting convention, we will be mimicking the nominating process while hearing from incredible experts on the upcoming elections.  After this we will jump right into Winter Congress were each delegates act as Senators and Representative and present their own bills in Washington D.C.  Then in late April, the last major convention of the year occurs; Spring State.   At this convention the Governor and Lieutenant Governor are elected and so the cycle of student leadership is continued.  The JSA year is an incredible exhilarating experience and I hope to see you at our next few conventions!
