Letter From The Governor

Dear Members of the Texas Junior State of America,

Congratulations on your membership in the Texas Junior State of America, the largest student run organization across the nation. The focus of the Junior State of America is to end political apathy amongst high school students. This year, a mission statement has been created to guarantee this and keep our overall goal in sight.

“Inspire the world through knowledge. Engage society through action. Empower the youth through democracy.”

With that, we, the Texas Junior State of America are embarking on the 74th year since the creation of the Junior State of America. This year, we find ourselves in the perfect situation to guarantee success throughout the Texas Junior State. In the coming months, the Junior Statesmen of America is going to be celebrating its own 75th Anniversary. Over seventy-five years, the growth of JSA is utterly astounding. What started as a group of students discussing politics in front of a fireplace has morphed into a nearly 12,000-member organization priding itself on its continuous development and growth across the nation. In preparation for the Anniversary, JSA is in the process of planning a JSA Awareness Day to help spread the word of such an astounding organization, as well as celebrate our success!

This year, the nation faces a huge decision, the Presidential Election. Election 2008 poses an amazing opportunity for the Junior Statesmen of America to take advantage of. This Fall, Texas JSA is planning on hosting a one-day regional solely dedicated to the discussion and debate of what is guaranteed to be one of the most controversial presidential elections in history. The Texas Junior State has arranged for this One-Day Regional, Election 2008, to be held at Rice University on the 18th of October 2008, be sure to save the date. Not only is this One-Day Regional a great way to being your involvement in Texas JSA and express your opinions freely, it serves as a downscaled parallel of our annual Fall State Convention.

Fall State 2008: From Promises to Policy: Making America’s Next Move is one of Texas JSA’s three annual Overnight Conventions. Each Overnight Convention is an opportunity for all of the Texas JSA Chapters to meet and have a series of in depth discussions and debates over some of the most current and controversial issues, while hearing some amazing guest speakers and engaging in some outlandishly fun evening activities. This year, Fall State 2008 is going to be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Austin, TX on November 22nd and 23rd. Plan accordingly to attend this amazing Convention!
