The PCS Chapter of the Junior State of America was founded four years ago by then-sophomore Ezra Berger. Since then, the populartiy of JSA has expanded and grown to include almost 25% of the high school population at Pacific Collegiate. At Fall State, a delegation of over 70 PCS students traveled to Santa Clara to participate at the overnight convention. The PCS chapter this year has been one of the largest ever and is one of the largest in JSA nationwide. PCS students are active leaders at all levels in JSA: Chapter President Caity Moe serves as the Northern California Lt. Governo; Krissie Fung helps to manager chapter affairs as the Assistant CIA Director. Ava Ghezelayagh is the Chief Justice while Keshav Singh works in the debate department as the Blurb Director and Gaia Puig as the Liberal party chair. Thanks to its strong support, PCS has been a prevalent organization on campus hosting all-school assemblies and engaging students, staff, teachers, and even the principal in activities. Recently, two members debated the principal on a resolution regarding lowering the voting age. At weekly meetings, JSA hosts guests speakers such as local attorney Ben Rice, who spoke about medical marijuana laws. Additionally, JSA members participate in debates and thought talks on issues ranging from healthcare to the presidential race to whether Paris Hilton is a better role model than Britney Spears. PCS emphasizes both quality and quantity in its JSA chapter and enjoys incorporating so many students in our exciting activities. |
