2012 Diplomat Program Alumnus

During the program JSA Diplomats take both an honors history and a Chinese language course. You are assigned language classes based on your proficiency, so whether you're a Mandarin expert or just a beginner, JSA will have a class tailored to your academic needs.

The JSA Diplomat Program offers the  adventure of a lifetime with the opportunity to explore China and Chinese culture, all while under the instruction of experienced and knowledgeable professors. You will learn the language and culture of China both in class and experientially through courses, meeting Chinese peers, and exploring two of China's largest cities, both independently and on guided trips.

The Forbidden City

The former home of the Chinese Emperor, the Forbidden City, lies at the geographical and political heart of Beijing. On this excursion you will tour the historically rich palace and politically charged atmosphere of Tiananmen Square, which lies directly adjacent.
The Great Wall

A journey to Beijing would not be complete without the opportunity to climb the Great Wall of China and take in it's stunning scenery and magnificent construction.
Temple of Heaven

At the Temple of Heaven you will soak in the culture and history you've been learning about in class while touring the beautifully landscaped grounds and brightly painted temples.
798 Art Zone

Located in the sprawling complex of the decommissioned Military Factory #798, the 798 Art Zone represents the best of the Avant-Garde art scene in Beijing. Here you will be free to roam through the stunning galleries, boutiques, and cafes.
Panjiayuan

A common favorite, Panjiayuan is one of Beijing's most popular antique markets. Here you have the opportunity to learn the art of bargaining while practicing your newfound Chinese skills with the vendors.
Shanghai

On one weekend you will race to Shanghai at 300kph along China's high-speed rail system. Once there, you get the chance to visit the Financial District, observe the city from one of its highest observation platforms, and participate in a scavenger hunt.
