Georgetown was founded in 1789, the same year as the U.S. Constitution’s ratification, and the school’s historic campus overlooks the Potomac River and the city of Washington, DC. Here, you’ll be immersed in the sights, sounds and legacy of American government and leadership.
This unique environment brings your studies to life and provides you with perspective, insights and understanding of the foundations of America’s unique and intricate system of government. At the same time, you’ll find the heartbeat of modern American politics during the program’s robust speakers program.
If you carry a real passion for politics and government and are ready for an intense focus on the structure, function and dynamics of our American governmental system, there simply is no better summer program than JSA Summer School at Georgetown University.
The quaint neighborhood surrounding Georgetown University is teeming with coffee houses, boutiques and restaurants, giving you a true college village feel. On campus, spend an afternoon studying under one of Georgetown’s sprawling trees and go to classes in its classically gothic buildings.
During JSA’s program, you’ll also get a chance to visit famous parts of Washington, DC, including the Lincoln Memorial, some of the best museums in the world and sites of governmental power—including the White House and Capitol Hill.
Hear what the leaders who shape our nation and world today have to say—and ask them questions to gain a deeper insight into their perspectives and convictions.
Approximately 5 days of the program are spent traveling into the heart of Washington, DC to visit speakers, including trips to the White House and major think tanks. You’ll hear from lobbyists and political leaders as well as military experts, journalists and policy analysts, all of them there to talk about the arcs of their careers and how they grapple with various policies affecting the U.S. government on a local, national, and international level.
At JSA Summer School, you’ll meet for “Debate Workshop” 2-3 times a week to hone your public speaking and argumentation skills. During these hourlong sessions, you and your peers will put your knowledge into action by learning to share and compare ideas with passion and conviction as well as civility, respect and tolerance.
You will make leadership decisions and will be responsible for the outcomes. This experience strengthens real-world success skills in analysis, communication, negotiation, persuasion, decisiveness, and partnership. It is a distinct experience that sets JSA Summer School apart and is built to ensure that the learning experience takes you beyond the classroom.
