Ways to Support

JSA provides assistance to students and Chapters to participate in its programs. JSA has awarded more than $750,000 in scholarships to summer school attendees and its student leaders have raised more than $100,000 each year for state scholarships. Your gift contributes to this rich legacy of ensuring JSA programs are available to any interested student no matter their financial or economic background.

Show your commitment to JSA with a recurring monthly gift. Your recurring contribution helps to support the ongoing work of JSA to mentor and teach a new generation of leaders the value of civil dialogue, respectful disagreement, and interacting with others who hold a different opinion.

Leave a Legacy – Join the Junior State Planned Giving Society

Show that the Junior State mission to inspire young people to actively participate in their democracy is important to you by leaving a bequest in your will or trust. Your legacy gift can be a vital part of securing JSA’s future and ensuring our long-term impact. We invite you to become a member of this special group, created exclusively to honor and recognize people who share our vision by including the Junior Statesmen Foundation in their wills, trusts, or estate plans.

Your gift will be recognized publicly unless you prefer to give anonymously. If you have already arranged for a bequest or other planned gift, we would like to honor your support. Please notify us and become a member.

Why make a gift from your estate?

You may be able to deduct part of your gifts as an immediate charitable contribution, reduce capital gains taxes, or retain or increase your retirement income. Most important, legacy and estate gifts are a lasting tribute to you and your family as donors, honoring an enduring commitment to engage young people in effective civic leadership.

What is the next step?

The most common and easiest ways to leave your legacy are through simple bequests, gifts from your IRA or life insurance plan, or gifts of appreciated securities. Please consult with your legal or financial advisor about the best way for you to provide for your personal priorities. Please notify us if you or your advisors have questions.

Making a simple bequest

Below is sample language that you may include in your will or trust. You may choose to include a specific dollar amount, or a percentage of your estate.

Unrestricted Bequest of Cash from Your Estate

“I give, devise and bequeath the sum of $ ________ to Junior State of America Foundation, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, federal tax ID #94-6050452, to provide support for its general purposes and mission.”

Unrestricted Bequest of a Percentage of Your Estate

“I give, devise and bequeath ____ percent [or ‘all’] of the residue of my estate, whether real or personal and wherever located, to Junior State of America Foundation, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, federal tax ID #94-6050452 to provide support for its general purposes and mission.”

Making a Gift from your IRA or life insurance

You may name the Junior State of America Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement plan. Often when these funds are left to an individual, they are subject to estate and income taxes, which can often be avoided when you leave these assets to a charitable organization like Junior State. You may choose to give through an IRA, 401k, SEP or SIMPLE plan. Consult your financial advisor and request a Change of Beneficiary form, and indicate that the Junior States of America Foundation is a charity that you designate to receive a percentage of these assets. You may also designate Junior State as a beneficiary of your IRA through a will or living trust.

You may also designate Junior State as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Request a Change of Beneficiary form and note Junior Statesmen Foundation as the sole or partial beneficiary of the policy.

JSA welcomes donations of appreciated securities, which typically require nothing more than giving JSA a completed stock transfer form that your financial advisor can provide you.

Corporate matching gifts boost the value of your gift to JSA. If your company has a matching gift program, simply complete the matching gift form available through your company’s personnel office and FAX to Development, 650.347.7200.
