Beth Freeman was appointed a United States District Judge for the Northern District of California in February 2014.
She was previously a Superior Court Judge in California’s San Mateo County for 13 years, handling family law, law and motion and general trial assignments. Freeman is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of California at Berkeley and was admitted to the Washington, D.C. Bar in 1979 and the California Bar in 1981.
Freeman served as an associate at the Washington law firm Fried Frank Harris Shriver and Kampelman and as an associate at the San Francisco law firm Lasky Haas, Cohler and Munter. She was a deputy county counsel in San Mateo from 1983-2000.
Freeman attended Ravenswood High School in East Palo Alto, Calif., and was a member of the Junior State chapter there.
